Where to do Yoga in Tulum: Top 10 Tulum Yoga Studios

by Emily Harman & Julienne C. Raboca

Yoga is at the heart of many places in Tulum. There’s something about that organic, island vibe that draws people to the meditative practice. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise that many people come to the Riviera Maya for the sole purpose of joining one of the Tulum wellness retreats. If you’ve spent a few days here, you can understand why… it can be a perfect setting to disconnect and relax. Whether or not you’ve ever tried yoga in your life, you should definitely get to a class while in the destination, there’s sure to be a few Tulum yoga hotels within walking or biking distance from you.

After trying a handful of classes in Tulum, we’ve put together our recommendations alongside those of our yoga-loving friends and fellow instructors:

Holistika. If you’re looking for the place with the most variety of Tulum yoga classes, head to Holistika in the jungle of La Veleta. Their styles range from Ashtanga to Vinyasa, as well as other mind-body practices and off-the-radar experiences like Tuning Fork Sound Meditation or Nei Qi Gong. They also have daily workshops like Hula-hoop, Capoeira, Reiki Sound Healing… the list is exhaustive. Located in La Valeta, Holistika is worth the trip from Aldea Zama or the Hotel Zone. Stay after class for a bite to eat at their vegan restaurant, Tierra. Classes are usually around MXN$250.

Yoga at Amansala Chica’s beach front deck

Amansala. Amansala is known as one of the original Tulum hotels with yoga. An authentic and long-standing establishment, the resort is focused on health and wellness. Their yoga and Pilates instructors specialize in a range of styles, having trained and taught all over the world from Asia and Australia to the Americas. Amansala’s owner Melissa Perlman created a program called Bikini Bootcamp, and every week groups come down to spend six days of classes, healthy food, massages, and rituals, etc. Amansala has four fully equipped yoga shalas and also offer fitness and dance classes including Afrobeat Aerobics, Salsa Dancing, HIIT, circuit training, Wim Hof breathwork (ice baths on weekends!), and more. You can view their schedule here; yoga classes from US$20 and fitness/dance from US$35. More on Amansala.

Sanara. This hotel is another Tulum yoga hotspot focused on a holistic approach to health and wellness. Their yoga studio has a glass wall that face the beach, making it a pretty breathtaking view to take in throughout your class. Afterwards, you can stop for brunch at Sanara’s restaurant The Real Coconut. The menu is 100% free of gluten, dairy, grains, soy, and corn. Check out their rotation of alternative events like Vedic Astrology & Indian Night; experiences range from US$40-$141.

Azulik. If you’ve ever been to Azulik’s restaurant or resort, or have seen photos, you know that the place has shaped the famed Tulum aesthetic. The whole property has an organic-fantasy ambiance about it, the yoga space included. They hold daily classes at 8:00am at their dome for US$35. For couples, they offer a unique “Forgiveness Ceremony”, a private 75-minute experience allowing partners to connect through music in synchrony with herbs and the copal cleansing.

Nomade. This well-appointed property is always a safe bet – everything they do is to their exquisite standard. Aside from their Yoga Shala, Nomade also holds sessions in their Gratitude Tent, and weekly talks in the Nomade Nest. Regular yoga classes are held daily at 8:00am, while special classes at 9:30am could come in the form of “Yoga with a live DJ set”, Kundalini, or “Clarity Breathwork.” Fitness classes are held at 11:00am, while talks and workshops happen in the afternoon. Couples could be interested in events like “Love Languages & Authentic Connection”, “Sex & Intimacy”, while friends would have a blast in “Improvisational Movement”!

Papaya Playa Project. Papaya Playa’s yoga is one of the dreamiest settings to do yoga in Tulum. Their classes take place in Casa Palapa, a huge palapa that overlooks the water. Their weekly experiences are hosted by local & resident artists that encompass yoga practices, workshops, and more. Classes are around $20.00 USD + Tax per person.

Om Collective. This spot in town is a grassroots venue for long-staying visitors or residents in Tulum. If you’re looking to connect with the local yoga community in a humble space, it’s worth signing up for one of their sessions, some of which are donation-based. They have daily classes from Monday to Sunday at 8am, 10am, 6pm and 8pm.
